While Perplexity might not generate as much buzz as ChatGPT or Google Gemini, the emerging AI tool from the startup is carving out its own niche. Unlike its more established counterparts, Perplexity delivers real-time answers via a search engine-style interface. The company is on the verge of making waves in the mobile world, with reports suggesting that it’s in talks to have its AI assistant integrated into Samsung Galaxy phones.

Bloomberg reports that Perplexity has already inked a deal with Lenovo, set to bring the AI assistant to Motorola’s upcoming devices. This partnership will be officially unveiled at Motorola’s event on April 24, where the company will showcase its 2025 Razr series. These phones will ship with Perplexity as a key AI feature, replacing Google Gemini for users. Motorola plans to heavily promote Perplexity, particularly for the Razr’s unique foldable form factor, offering an updated user interface that leverages the device’s outer cover screen for a more tailored experience.

Beyond Motorola, Perplexity is also reportedly in discussions with Samsung to bring its assistant to Galaxy smartphones. However, the talks are still in the early stages, and nothing has been finalized as of yet. Samsung could either make Perplexity the default assistant on its devices, pre-install the app on phones, or feature it prominently in the Galaxy Store.

Samsung’s Strong Relationship with Google

Given the deep collaboration between Samsung and Google, it seems unlikely that Samsung would replace Google’s Gemini with Perplexity as the default AI assistant anytime soon. The two companies have worked closely together on several key Gemini features, including providing Galaxy S25 users with early access to Gemini, alongside the Pixel 9 series.

That being said, even if Samsung doesn’t make Perplexity the default assistant, integrating it in other ways—such as pushing it through the Galaxy Store or pre-installing it as an alternative to Gemini—would still offer significant exposure to the AI assistant, potentially introducing it to millions of new users.

Currently, Samsung devices come with both Google’s Gemini and Samsung’s own Bixby pre-installed, and if Perplexity is added to the mix, future Galaxy phones could feature up to three AI assistants.

Why Perplexity is Gaining Attention

One of the things that sets Perplexity apart from other AI assistants is its versatility. The tool doesn’t just rely on its own AI model, but also incorporates models from other leading companies like OpenAI and Anthropic. This flexibility makes it a powerful contender in the AI assistant space.

Additionally, Perplexity launched its Android assistant in early 2025, bringing live view support and on-screen context features, which are similar to Google Lens and Circle to Search functionalities. The Perplexity Android app also offers a broad range of features, including the ability to set reminders, adjust device settings, make phone calls, and more, making it a strong all-around tool for users.

If Samsung and Perplexity move forward with their discussions, it could mark a major step in the evolution of mobile AI, bringing more options and flexibility to users across the globe.
